Sociate: Why do we do what we do?

sociblog:

I was writing something so different from this yet ended up with the following post.

No one can possibly deny the world we live in today is markedly different in its approach to social interaction than it was perhaps even as little as a decade ago. Facebook and My Space being the…

Tragic: Sorry to perpetuate a clichè but scenes like this aren’t uncommon in my country and frankly most appalling. We fuss over so much that isn’t important and we do squat for our poor countrymen. We talk of big airports, bigger sea ports and a digital country while our own get blackened by the development process. Absolutely shameful. I don’t know how we can have any pride in anything as long as any such scene exists in our country. For those who pride themselves in our achievements, I am not asking you to not be proud but ask you to hold back on it until the scourge of poverty is removed from our society. It is most important.
Another reason why I cannot trust in organised religion anymore. I come from an islamic background, it preaches giving alms to the poor through Zakat annually as a duty of every muslim in the world. The idea behind which is to alleviate sufferings of the poor. For the largest religion in the world, the collective power of that fund could alleviate any level of poverty for any country in the world through a system of investment……but does that happen to any significant degree? No. So a large majority don’t give a damn because parting with your money and parting with your intelligence to make way for faith are two different things. Being duped with your conscience is much easier than the former.
Tragic. I wish we cared more to relieve the fate of children in this type of dire conditions.
